Support for most proprietary GDI printers (HBPL, Konica-Minolta, RISO GDI, QMS, Samsung, Lexmark, Dell, Brother, Zebra and others)Many printer manufacturers make their products compatible with the PostScript standard, or PCL (a language developed by HP). We strongly recommend PostScript or PCL compatible printers and drivers if available. May also be required in some situations. All common connection methods are supported, including USB, LPT Port, TCP/IP (ethernet network printers), standard LPR port, standard TCP/IP ports, and JetDirect. Where possible we recommend networked printers (i.e.
One with an ethernet port). If you are having page counting or other attribute detection issues when using a printer with PaperCut, please see the article. Also see:PaperCut also supports most wide-format printers and plotters. The printing costs for plotters can be defined using page area based charging. This KB article covers any known issues with popular models/makes/drivers. If you’re after information about and device compatibility, please see. BrotherBrother printers supporting PCL and PostScript are supported. Some models using proprietary drivers (e.g. XL2HB) currently only are supported to a limited extent (e.g.
Due to a non-standard driver output our page counting ability on certain low end Brother devices is impacted. This includes the HL-5470, HL-5450 and HL-2250.Note May 2013: Fixed a problem in page level color detection for Brother PostScript printers.Note May 2012: Added paper size detection for Brother MFC-6490CW.Note March 2012: Added page count support for Brother QL-580N.Note July 2011: Added page count support for MFC-J6710.Note December 2009: The Mac driver for the MFC-8500 uses a proprietary and undocumented printer language and is currently not supported. There has been 1 request for adding support for this printer.Note August 2009: The Mac driver for the HL-5250DN labelled “CUPS Printer Driver” on the Brother website (a PCL5 driver) has issues with copy count detection. An alternative is to use the driver option labelled “BR-Script Driver” (a PostScript driver) instead.
We currently have 1 request for improving the copy count detection on the HL-5250DN using the PCL5 driver on Mac.Note March 2009: There have been some reports of n-up (2 pages per 1 sheet) printing not being detected on the Brother HL-7050. The solution is to change.Note Feb 2009: For color detection support on the Brother HL-2700CN series either use the PostScript driver or upgrade to version 9.2 for support with the PCL6 driverNote June 2011: Recommend that watermarking not be used for the XL2HB driver which is close to PCL6 but not close enough for watermark insertion. CanonCanon laser printers and copiers work with PaperCut. The majority of Canon BubbleJet printers are compatible. EpsonThe current range of AcuLaser, AL, and EPL mono and color laser printers are fully supported by PaperCut. Please ensure the very latest drivers are installed.
The majority of inkjets produced over the last 8 years supporting ESC/P2, ESC/PAGE and ESC/PAGE-COLOR will work. HP (Hewlett Packard)HP Laser Printers: PaperCut works with all HP lasers produced over the last 9 years. Where possible, we recommend the PostScript drivers or recent PCL drivers.PaperCut will work with the HP Universal Driver. We however find that most of our users opt for the light-weight network drivers to support printer sharing and driver deployment. The Universal Driver is in fact a driver that wraps every driver into one installer and hence is quite heavy weight. It’s great for a stand-alone install, however for network deployments selecting the specific light-weight network drivers by hand usually results predictable behavior and the administrator more control.PaperCut provides page level color detection for full PCL5, PCL6 and PostScript language implementations by HP.
KIP (wide format engineering printers and plotters)PaperCut version 8 and onwards support both the KIP-Script and KIP-GL drivers, including page size detection and page-level color detection.Note August 2016: Fixed page size detection for new KIP plotters.Note September 2012: Added page count, copy count and page size detection for PCL5 based KIP printers such as the KIP-7000.Note November 2010: Added support for PostScript copy count (as seen on KIP-c80).Note April 2008: Recent versions of KIP drivers caused a few page size detection problems. This was addressed in version 8.2 onwards. Konica-MinoltaMost Konica-Minolta devices offer multiple driver options, all of which should be compatible with recent versions of PaperCut. LexmarkThe current range of mono and color laser printers work with PaperCut.
PostScript drivers are recommended. The “budget” inkjet printers use a proprietary GDI printer language and depending on the model, problems may be experienced. If problems are experienced, please upgrade to the latest version of PaperCut.Note May 2013: Fixed page overcountng that can occur on some documents on Lexmark Universal v2 PCL5 driver.Note Sep 2009: The Lexmark C500N uses a proprietary, undocumented printer language and is not currently supported by PaperCut. We have currently had 1 request for adding Lexmark C500N printer support. Ricoh/NashuatecPaperCut supports the current range of Ricoh laser and multi-function printers.

Xerox/Tektronix/FujiThe DocuPrint and Phaser Series accommodate PCL and PostScript. Use the PostScript drivers if available.
